De Appel is an internationally oriented arts centre in Amsterdam. Since it was founded in 1975 it has served as a leading platform for research and the presentation of contemporary art. De Appel has a program of exhibitions and performances by visual artists, choreographers and theatre directors. In addition, under the title Appel on the side, it organizes a broad program of events, ranging from introductory talks to conferences. As a publisher, de Appel publishes artist books and monographs, periodicals and anthologies of essays.
