Marie-France Rafael (FR) is an art historian and researcher at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule in Kiel. In 2015 she completed her PhD Media Display-Situations in films and video works of contemporary artists, at the Freie Universität Berlin under Professor Gregor Stemmrich, before which she studied art history and film studies in Paris and Berlin. Her research foci include: video and film art, an investigation into contemporary artistic and curatorial practice, articulating (and articulations of) art history, and an intensive exchange with artists, such as Pierre Huyghe, Ari Benjamin Meyers, and Clemens von Wedemeyer, among others. From 2011-2014, she worked as a research associate at the Collaborative Research Center 626: Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits in the Research Project of Professor Stemmrich: The Interrelated Dynamics of Display and Situation within Aesthetic Reflection, at the Freie Universität Berlin. Publications include, Ari Benjamin Meyers: Music on Display (2015), Pierre Huyghe: On Site (2012), and the co-edited volume ;Assign and Arrange. Methodologies of Presentation in Art and Danc'e (2014).
