Alexandra Novozhenova

Alexandra Novozhenova is an art critic, art historian, and lecturer. In her early studies Novozhenova focused on Soviet avant-garde theories and methodologies as well as on late-modernist Soviet art discourses and their post-Soviet aftermath and recontextualization. After graduating from MSU she actively published in Russian art media and taught at Moscow-based art institutions. Most recently in collaboration with artist Anastasia Ryabova she taught a course titled Introduction into Profession-XXI Century (2015–16), designed for second-year art students at Rodchenko School of Multimedia Art and Photography. The seminar addressed questions of contemporary artists’ position in relation to precarious labor, issues of professionalization, and institutional realities. She currently coedits the Moscow-based magazine on art and social critique Raznoglasia (Controversy).
